Idol is not a contest, it gets by those rules by the "reality TV show" label.

Truth in advertising might be more appropiate.

the show is a scam.

great blog! People are so immersed in cheap populism that few will see the reality. This is a problem of the work ethic of america. It has sold its soul to corporations and people with big money are calling the shots basically. Wall Street was a tip of the iceberg.

Meh I hate American Idol. Because of them, some karaoke star can be rocketed to the charts simply because they wear the brand's name.... They're definately contributing to the downfall of music post-90's. But hey, that's pop music for you. Remember back when it took TALENT and DEDICATION to make it in the music industry? Sigh... those were the good ole days. But, I ramble too much... Yet, this is no laughing matter, for music is the "soul" of a society, and the artists are it's caretakers... I still cringe every time the judges refer to a contestant as an artist on the show. A karaoke star isn't an artist! Sure the American Idols might have a good voice, but real music isn't about singing a song "right" note for note. It's about the meaning, emotion, and the way the different parts come together to create something that trancends time. Sure you can be a good singer, but does that make you a good artist? Nay... it does not. You can have a beatiful instrument, yet not have any idea how to play it. You can give a man a guitar, but that does not make him Eric Clapton. The show likes to perpetuate the notion that it is something grand, both a granter of a lowly contestant's dreams of becoming a pop star and a sound judge on quality in the music industry. Though the former may perhaps be true, the latter is certainly not, for the show is merely a singing competition disguised as a beauty contest. Even Simon Cowell himself has said so on occasion. Anyways, I think your blog is quite splendid, and definately needed to show Americans the truth about "American" Idol. However, I feel far too little will pay attention to your words...
